Reaching Out for Animal Rights !
Liberate the Planet and All Her Creatures
ROAR! is dedicated to the liberation of human and non-human animals and the planet. We primarily focus on the plight of non-human animals because of the sheer magnitude of their suffering (70 + billion killed/yr). We see all sentient beings as sacred and part of the precious web of life. We understand animal exploitation to be a central pillar of capitalism, from which the largest industries (food, big pharma, oil) derive the bulk of their profits. We see the suffering inflicted on non-human animals as the major cause of the suffering of humans (i.e., through starvation, disease, workers’ injuries and deaths, and environmental devastation (250,000 human deaths/year)).
In addition, we perceive racism, sexism, age-ism, class-ism, and speciesism to be interlocking oppressions which demean the human spirit and augment Capital’s domination over all of us. We thus urge people to transition to a plant based, vegan diet and lifestyle and in turn inspire others to do the same. Though we see this as urgent, we acknowledge that it entails confronting the lies and myths we’ve been fed from youth--for example, that violence against non-human animals is natural, normal and necessary. It means aligning with the least powerful (the marginalized of society as well as our sister brother animals) against the most powerful, (those who serve big business interests and the maximization of profits).
To raise our voices and create dramatic change, we at ROAR! sponsor forums on all of the above; we leaflet; create videos and produce weekly tv shows; design and print vegan t-shirts; host events; unite with other groups and organizations and engage in social activism.
Email us if you’d like to hear about these activities and ways you can become part of the ROAR family ~ as we work towards an egalitarian, communally shared, vegan, just, sustainable, joyful, peaceful, loving world.
"... there is something even more intolerable in the sufferings of animals than in the sufferings of man. For with the latter it is at least admitted that suffering is evil .... But millions of animals are uselessly butchered every day without a shadow of remorse. And that is the unpardonable crime." Romain Rolland, author, Nobel Prize 1915

"The meat industry has contributed to more American deaths_than all the wars of this and the last century, all the natural disasters and all the automobile accidents combined."
~ Neal D. Barnard, M.D
Sustain the Planet
Paul McCartney said “If anyone wants to save the planet, all they have to do is just stop eating meat. That’s the single most important thing you can do.”
